Hi, I'm just wondering which one is the better covariance matrix..

a) to have one with only numbers along the diagonals
b) to have one with the top diagonal number being greater than the other diagonals (but numbers do not only appear in the diagonals but in the other entries)
c) to have the one with the last diagonal number being greater than the other diagonals (but numbers do not only appear in the diagonals but in the other entries)

I'm thinking, a is best, then b then c.. is this correct?

which one would you choose if you only had to pick one of them?

There are no bad matrices, there are only bad mathematicians!(Giggle)

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself.)

Better design for what? The diagonal matrix with all diagonal elements the same would be a better Minimalist design. While either of the other two would be better as Abstract Expressionist designs and given the propensity of galleries to hang these upside down they could be considered the same design.

(you will not get a sensible answer to problems unless you post the entire question and its context)
