pdf won't change

I am a brand-new Latex user - with Winedt 6. I am trying to amend a document, but each time I click on dvi2pdf the old pdf comes up. How do I get my changes to appear in a new pdf document? I am sure I am doing something very basic wrong...

Thanks,

Jonny

run pdflatex of use the tool the creates a dvi then run dvi2pdf

(If you run dvi2pdf you first need to create a new dvi from the .tex file)

Thank you, Captain Black, for your willingness to help a newbie.

I have a tex document, so I guess I need 'tex to latex'. If I click on the Tex menu it says 'latex' there - is that it?

When I try this, I have to click return a lot - but eventally, these returns don't help, and they simply come through on the text.

The sticking point seems to be 'Latex error; file 'subfigure.sty not found'

Since subfigure.sty is not referred to at all in my document, I am mystified,

There should be a button with dvi on it or a menue with tools that has dvi on it. That is what you need to use.

That should create a new dvi file which you can then use dvi2pdf on.

Thank you Captain Black, I'm getting the right thing now. There were two buttons labelled dvi, one 'dvi preview' and one 'dvi search' - I don't know which one did the trick, but I am seeing what I expect at last!

Thanks again,

Jonny
