For a hydrographic survey it was proposed to fix the horizontal position of the sounding vessel by measuring distances from ship to shore. A microwave Hydrodist master station located in the sounding vessel ox to measure to two remote stations located on fixed stations.

One of the remote instruments is located on a tripod 1.5 above a station R.L of 0.307 A.H.D.

If the EDM ray is to clear the mean seal level by 0.5m and it is required to measure a maximum distance of 8Km, at what height above the waterline must the transmitter be placed in the sounding vessel.

I would suggest you rewrite this trying for more clarity, for a start don't use unexplained abreviations.

Please post the question expressed without unexplained abreviations and variables.

Also if you think R is the radius of the Earth, you need to use a 4/3-Earth value to allow for refraction at microwave frequencies.
