I am attending a different school for the summer and the professor teaching Number Theory isn't qualified to teach addition in 2nd grade.

How would you set up -243/25 in the form of a=qd+r. She told us that q has to be positive but when I found it on wikipedia, an example let q be negative.

Well since \(\displaystyle 0\leq r<|d| \), if \(\displaystyle a<0 \) and \(\displaystyle d>0 \) (like your case), then \(\displaystyle q<0 \).
