Note that $\displaystyle 1+\sin^2(ax) \geq 1$ and $\displaystyle \cos x \leq 1$

The only possibility to get the equation correct is therefore

$\displaystyle 1+\sin^2(ax) = \cos x = 1$ that I let you solve
