# Thread: Single trigonometric functions...

1. Yeah... We've done a lot of Trig. stuff in Pre-Calc. I actually ended up going to my college's math lab. They were really busy so they couldn't help much. The lady was trying to do the double angle formula, but we kept getting an extra sin that would just keep switching sides. Then she started talking about ellipses maybe? I'm not sure... She wasn't clear. Something like x^2 + xy +y^2. She said that she was going to mess with it for a while when she had the time.

Any thoughts on that?

I under stood you, Captain Black, but for some odd reason, everyone else didn't. I think they're reading into it too much, like I was originally.

One thing that has me bothered is that this is a standard problem
type, I seem to remember doing these all the time when I was about 16.
I seem also to recall doing them subsequently (something to do with
signal processing or control - I don't recall at this time). So I was a
bit surprised that none of the other regulars spotted what was required.

3. See... What threw most people off, was the arctan... This is actually a "project." We're supposed to turn it into a single function and fully explain the steps along the way. My Prof. said that it wasn't a very hard problem, but we just have to do an excellent job of explaining it to get the full (60) points.

4. I talked to my Prof. and he said that the work looked right. He said that the arctan will not give a nice nuber, so I should put it as a decmal.

Thank you very much Captian Black!
