    compass directions

    A, B, and C are thermometers with different scales. When A reads 10 and 34, B reads 15 and 31,
respectively. When B reads 30 and 42, C reads 5 and 77, respectively. If the temperature drops 18
using As scale, how many degrees does it drop using Cs scale?

You should plan ahead better. One Hour? Really!

    Really Big Hint:

    Compare A to B

    Scale A: 34-10 = 24
    Scale B: 31-15 = 16

It appears that B moves less than A in the ratio 16/24 = 2/3. So, B moves 2/3 times the movement of A.

    Compare B to C
    Scale B: 42-30 = 12
    Scale C: 77-5 = 72

It appears that C moves more than B in the ratio 72/12 = 6. So, C moves 6 times the movement of B.

Okay, move A 18 and see what B does. Then see what C does.

Alternatively, you can do the tiny bit of algebra and relate A nd C directly.

    Your choice.
