Performing Logarithmic Functions on a TI84 plus...

Does anybody have any insight on how to perform log functions on a TI graphing calculator? Because I clearly do not know how to. I know that
log4 times 8 is supposed to give me 3/2 but when I did it on my TI84 plus it gave me 4.8 something, so, anybody??? Help???

Ok, in what base is it ?

    And is it \log(4*8) or 8 \log(4)

    so the problem is :

    (8)log4 = 3/2 ?

in exponential form this is the same as

    (8) 10^(3/2) = 4 which is not true. 10^(3/2) is 31.6 and multiplied by 8 gives you a much bigger #. Maybe the answer key has a mistake?
