1. ## Trigonometry of effective wind from yaw angle (see link)

hi, first post........Can anyone help me with the formula for "effective air velocity" assuming I have 1 yaw angle; 2 front/head air velocity and 3 side air velocity? There is a calculator here (apparent wind angles) but I cannot figure out the formula for "effective air velocity" from the other variables.

thank you!

Hope this doesn't take the wind outta your sails(!):

apparent wind angles

thanks, Denis, just looking for the formula that describes effective air velocity assuming I have 1 yaw angle; 2 front/head air velocity and 3 side air velocity

ok sorry I have the solution it is simple sides of isosceles triangle problem ie a^2 + b^2 = c^2
