    I'm afraid you can't. The rule is log(ab) = log(a) + log(b). But your is not in this form... There is no expression for log(a + b).

    $\log_5(5^3+5^2) = \log_5(5^2(5+1)) = \log_5 (5^2)+\log_5(6) = 2+\log_5(6)$
