Take the $\displaystyle log_7$ of both sides:
$\displaystyle log_7 (x) = log_7 \left ( 7^{y + 1} \right ) = y + 1$

Can you finish from here?

Or, if you need a decimal answer and your calculator doesn't do $\log_7$, just take the natural log of both sides in the first place.
