haha youre exactly right...i started by setting the red rock as the center of the circle with circumference 942 feet (not sure if thats irrelevent)...i drew a coordinate plane through it and then tried using the law of sines sin40/50=sinx/70 to find a second angle in the drawn triangle on the map, then subtracted the two angles to find the third and final angle (40, 76, 64). This allowed me to find other lengths of the legs of the triangle, but i constantly felt that i needed either another angle or another length on the given triangle or other triangles i had drawn in in order to solve for lengths which would give me distances i needed for the first few questions. To give the directions to the palm tree, i tried to find the angle a person would turn if they were facing north from the red rock in order to face the tree by giving directions in reverse order. The person i am working on this with suggested that a person with 70 yards of rope walk out from the red rock until its taught (because the palm is 70 yards away in some direction) while another walks out on the circle drawn around the center point (red rock) with radius of 50 yards until they both lined up with sight line of the base of the hill, but it was too vague and mostly guessing. We met a lot of deadends and this explanation of what we tried probably sounds rediculous because we were unsure of how to find exact measurements unfortunately.
