    sin 60

    when calculating sin60 and sin120 i get the same value √3/2
    however sin^-1 √3/2 =60 and not 120 why is this

    Speaking in degrees, the arcsin or sin^-1 function is defined from -90 to 90. This is so that every value between -1 and 1 will have a unique inverse sine.
