1. ## Unable to simplify an expression

Hi,

Very VERY happy to have found this forum, I have a test tomorrow and I'm really stuck.

I want to simplify the following expression:-

I really have no clue how to do this.

If anyone could explain the procedure to me, I will be forever in their debt.

Many thanks!

$1 - \cos^2 \theta = \sin^2 \theta$ and $1 - \sin^2 \theta = \cos^2 \theta$. these are identities you must know!

and what is $\frac {\sin^2 \theta}{\cos^2 \theta}$ ?

Muhuhahahhaaha! you are forever indebted to me! your soul is mine!

I'm lost by this TBH.

I have to find one more question/area to learn to get a pass mark on my test. Going to work on that and I'll make a thread on it later after a bit more study.

again, thanks!

so what's the answer? what is $\frac {\sin^2 \theta}{\cos^2 \theta}$ ?

7. ... the answer is $\tan^2 \theta$
