    West Point, New York, is 87 mi due east of Scranton, Pennsylvania. An airplane leaves West Point at 10:00 A.M. and flies 250 mi/h in the direction 327 degrees. When (to the nearest minute) will the plane be due north of Scranton?

    I am struggling to solve this Question.

    I tried to say, if 250 mi/h, then in 87 mi, it will be 21 minutes. The answer is not correct.

    See if this picture helps clarify things. You need to solve for D and determine how long it takes to fly that distance at 250 mi/h

    Re: Vectors

    D = 87 / cos 57 = 139 mi

    If 250 mi/h, then in 139 mi, the plane travels 33 minutes. If my steps are correct, why does my book still say that the plane arrives at 10:38 A.M.?

    Re: Vectors

    Oh my God. The answer was not correct because my Calculator was in Grads, not Degrees. Now, It is fixed. Thank you for the Picture. It gave me the Complete Idea behind this kind of Questions.
