# Math Help - Is the first vertex of this equation a min or max?

1. ## Is the first vertex of this equation a min or max?

Hi,

I'm a little confused because the answer key differs with the answer I found, so could someone tell me if the first vertex of the equation 2sin-(pi-x)+1 is a max or a minimum? I factored out the negative to get it into the right format (x-h) so that b and a are both positive, but the answer key has b negative (form is asinb(x-h)+k).

Thanks!

I can't discern what the function is. jARe you trying to write $2sin[-(\pi -x)}]+1$ ???

3. ## Re: Is the first vertex of this equation a min or max?

Yes, that's it.

4. ## Re: Is the first vertex of this equation a min or max?

Well, that is, of course, the same as $2 sin(x- \pi)+ 1$. What does sin(x) look like just above $x= -\pi$?

I am crazy! I hate min and max!

Okay, you are crazy. What was your point in posting that?
