    Solving for Tan^2(x)= value

    What is the method to solve for x in an equation such as Tan^2(x) = 2 or Tan^2(x)=5/2?
    All help much appreciated!

    \tan^2(x)=a

    \tan(x)=\pm \sqrt a

    x_{1,2}=n\cdot \pi \pm \arctan(\sqrt a) ~\text{where}\ n \in \mathbb{Z}
