    make a rational expression out of: sec x tan x....

    Make on one rational expression out of:

    Sec x Tan x -root2 sec^2x

    I'm having a little trouble getting started on this on. Sorry if I wrote it out in a funny way.

    I don't know what you mean by wanting a rational expression... It will never be rational since \displaystyle \sqrt{2} is irrational...

    It probably means to write it as a fraction (i.e. a rational function) in terms of \displaystyle \sin{x} and \displaystyle \cos{x}...

    Write cos(x) and tan(x) in terms of sin(x) & cos(x). Write the result as a single fraction.
