Thread: Simplify trig expression

I am a little confused on how to simplify th following expression.

3cot^2(x)+[2+tan(x)]

Write cot^2(x) as 1/tan^2(x), then get a common denominator.

the question is actually multplied by not +, my mistake. Um so 1/tan^2(x).[2+tan^2(x)]

then?

Divide each term in 2 + tan^2(x) by tan^2(x)...
