Problem with an Obtuse Triangle
For this problem I must find the variable x and Angle A
This is all the information I was given, but I'm not sure what to do
I've got as far as using the Law of Cosines (ie not that far!)

The given in this problem implies a contradiction.
Note that $X+(4-X)=4$ so $49-16=33$.
But $h=\sqrt{33}>5$ which impossible as the hypotenuse is 5.
So review the question. It is faulty as given.

I'm sorry you're right
I was able to solve it once I understood the whole base was 4-x not just that piece

I was able to get x = -1 and angle A is 101.5
x is negative because it goes to the left of the coords into negatives

The problem was badly written, it is solved now
