    Unhappy dividing equation gives ...

    equation 1) a=rcos(theta)
    equation 2) b=rsin(theta)

    diving equation 1 by equation 2 gives

    tan(theta)=b/a - HOW come?

    r cancels and it's a well known identity that \tan \theta = \dfrac{\sin \theta}{\cos \theta}.

    You can verify it using SOHCAHTOA or the unit circle
