Well $\displaystyle \tan^2 x = \sec^2x-1$

Therfore $\displaystyle 2\tan^2 x + 2 \sec^2 x - \sec x = 12$ becomes

$\displaystyle 2( \sec^2x-1) + 2 \sec^2 x - \sec x = 12$

Now you have everything in terms of $\sec x$
