    Use: SOH CAH TOA to find out the correct trig ratio.

    Spoiler:
    \tan(42) = \dfrac{3x+3}{4x}

    Note that tan(42) \approx 1 so you'd expect those two sides to be roughly equal

    daughter have trouble finding value of x

    Hi there,

    tan 42 = 3x + 3/4x

    4x tan 42 = 3x + 3

    4x(0.9) = 3x + 3

    3.6x = 3x + 3

    3.6x - 3x = 3

    0.6x = 3

    x = 3/0.6

    x = 5. Hope this helps.
