can someone please explain how to get the value of x.

tan 42 = 3x + 3/4x

4x tan 42 = 3x + 3

4x(0.9) = 3x + 3

3.6x = 3x + 3

3.6x - 3x = 3

0.6x = 3

x = 3/0.6

x = 5. Hope this helps.
