is sin^2(x) = (sin(x))^2 or sin (x^2) ?

$\displaystyle \sin^2(x)=[\sin(x)]^2$ and that second way is how many calculators and computer algebra systems require it be done.

But historically the first way is preferred. - Jan 31st 2011, 01:33 PMe^(i*pi)
$\displaystyle \sin^2(x) = \sin(x) \sin(x) = [\sin(x)]^2$

This holds for any positive integer
