the key to the first one is tan(x) = sin(x)/(cos(x)

for the second one, combite the LHS to one fraction and use
    sin^2 + cos^2 = 1

    1. (sinx/cosx)/sinx....and im stuck

    2. (sin^2x+cos^x)/sinx - sinx/sinx
    = sin^2x+cos^2x-sinx/sinx

I can think of few things that annoy me more than this. PLEASE don't delete your original post as it may help someone else that has a similar problem.
