# Thread: Max value and expression

1. ## Max value and expression

Given the function $\displaystyle y=6cos 2pie divided by 14 x-2$

a) the maximum value of this function

b) an expression for the x-values for which this maximum occurs

not sure how to write it properly using pie

Thanks

is this what you mean?

$\displaystyle \displaystyle y = 6\cos\left(\frac{2\pi}{14x-2}\right)$

y=6cos(2pi\14)x-2

That does not make any sense.
Try again.

This is why i'm struggling, that is what it says
$\displaystyle y=6cos(2pi/14)x-2$
I don't know what else to say, i'm so confused over this

$\displaystyle \displaystyle y = 6\cos\left(\frac{2\pi}{14}x\right) - 2 = 6\cos\left(\frac{\pi}{7}x\right) - 2$ has a maximum value of 4 and occurs when $\displaystyle \displaystyle \cos\left(\frac{\pi}{7}x\right) = 1$
