# Math Help - Trig problem

1. ## Trig problem

A vertical mast [xy] stands on a level ground. A straight wire joins y, the top of the mast to t, a point on the ground. The point r is 50m from x, the base of the mast.

(i) Find the height of the mast |xy| if |<ytx| = 56.31 degrees.

(ii) A second straight wire joins y to k, another point on level ground. The length of this wire is 100m, find |<ykx|

Can somebody do this for me? I'm having serious trouble. I have like 10 similar ones of these to do.

hi

i think you meant t , (in red)

first of all , make a sketch . Let yx be h

(1) tan 56.31 = h/50

h=50 tan 56.31

(2) lets call that angle p .

sin p=h/100

sin p=(50 tan 56.31)/100

calculate p .

3. Thank you.

4. Just to confirm I have the correct answers here, my calculator is a little dodgy haha

I got 67.1 for the first and 0.6710 for the second. Are these correct or do I need a new calculator? :P
