A Baguio city road is inclined 20degree to the horizontal. If a man jogs 500m along this road, how high above is his starting point?

Anyone know how to diagram and solve this problem? nid help please

Draw a horizontal line to signify the starting point. From this line draw an angle of 20 degrees from it.

From the end of the horizontal line draw a vertical line (so that a right-angle is formed with the horizontal) until it reaches the angle line.

You should now have a right-angled triangle to work with. We know that the hypotenuse is 500m and the angle is 20 degrees. To find the height label the vertical line h and note this opposite the 20degree angle.

We now have an angle and the hypotenuse while needing to find the opposite. Can you recall a trig ratio to use in this situation

Almost correct.

It's actually

$\displaystyle \sin{\theta} = \frac{\textrm{Opposite}}{\textrm{Hypotenuse}}$.

So substituting in your values gives

$\displaystyle \sin{20^\circ} = \frac{h}{500\,\textrm{m}}$.

Solve for $\displaystyle h$.
