# sides of triangle

sides of triangle
hello can you tell me if I have done this question correctly
I split the triangle in 2 to get a right angled triangle
(so lenght of adjacent split in two+1.15)
so then I got sin 34(degrees) x 1.15 = 0.776

so 1.15^2 + 0.776^2= hypothenuse^2
so a (or b as both sides of triangle are the same) = 1.4
a=1.4
b=1.4

Hi wolfhound,

I'm confused about your drawing. In the drawing you said you already had a right triangle. Which angle is the right angle? Is 2.3 the hypotenuse? You never said anything about it being isosceles. Is it?

Try using microsoft paint to make your drawing.

Start - Program - Accessories - Paint

Label your triangle A, B, C. Name the sides you know and the angle you know. Then it'll be easy.

Hello ,That is the way its on my question sheet the question says
A right angled triangle has sides of lenght 2.3 metres,a meters and b meters
it doesnt say actually what type of triangle it is
It doesnt look like a right angle triangle unless I split it down the centre
so the angle shown in bottom left is 34 the top corner 56 and bottom centre 90

do you think I am doing it the correct way by splitting it?

I'm just going by what you have written here. Look at what I've highlighted in red.

It doesn't say anything about the triangle being isosceles, so why do you think a perpendicular would bisect any base?

You need to check with the one who came up with this vague question and create a drawing like I suggested that will reflect exactly what's given and what you're supposed to find.

I'd have to assume the right angle is between sides a and b, and that 2.3 is the hypotenuse. But, that's only an assumption. It's easy from here if that's the case, but who knows??
