I cant figure out these 2 problems on bearings
1)A plane is 1200 miles west from an airport
It changes course to South 5 degrees West
It flew for 420 miles
What is the bearing from airport to plane?

2) A plane is 840 miles North from an airport
It changes course to North 34 degrees East
It travels 220 miles
What is the distance and the bearing from airport to plane?

make a sketch for both problems.

for #1, use the cosine law to find the final distance between the plane and the airport, then use the sine law to find the applicable bearing.

for #2, use the cosine law to find the final distance between the airport and the plane

3. Thanks but i cant figure out how to draw it correctly thats where my problem is my diagrams are set up wrong

because the given direction of the turn was South 5 degrees West

7. ## how to label the bearing?

hello.. i have found the answer to the first question but how do you label the final answer when a ray/side of the angle is neither on north nor west? thank you
