    Notation

    Really simple question here (I think haha) just wondering if anyone knows what the notation with the (curved brackets) and two numbers written vertically means.

    Are you referring to \binom{a}{b}??

    That's a binomial coefficient (also represents a combination):

    a "choose" b is defined to be \binom{a}{b}=\frac{a!}{b!\left(a-b\right)!};\quad a\geq b
