    Probability Question 2

    Is this also a binomial question?

    Coast Guard inspectors have found 16 percent of all lifeboats o large cruise ships have a faulty latch release. A large cruise ship has 73 lifeboats. What is the probability that 9 or more of the lifeboats have a faulty latch release.

    It seems so, but with n large you can approximate it rather well with a normal approximation.

    We would need to assume independence between the latches.

    n=73 p=P(successs=have a faulty latch release)=.16

    You want P(X\ge 9)=1-P(X\le 8)=1-F(8)
