I am extremely poor in odds and probabilities. My question is "from a standard deck of 52 cards, what are the odds of getting a pair? any pair?" Thanks.

The chance of drawing any one card is 1 (it's certain because there are no other cards yet xD). The chance of getting a pair on your next card is 3/51 since there are 4 of each card and 51 left after your first pick. Multiply these together:

$\frac{52}{52}\cdot \frac{3}{51} = \frac{3}{51}$

That is, of course, when drawing two cards. If you are asking about the chances of exactly one pair in, say, 5 cards, that is much harder.
