# Thread: probability-i dont get it

1. ## probability-i dont get it

can anyone help me with this question.

a machine operator has to meet a target of producing x units each week. if this operator meets the target a least one week in a two bonus will be given. the probability a machine operator meets the targetis 9/16. what is the probability the machine operator meets the target in one week out of two or in both weeks. use a tree diagram to show all possible combinations.

2. ## probability

The following is all possible combinations Y means yes worker met requirement. N means No worker did not meet requirement. Green means bonus is given, red means no bonus given.

YY
YN
NY
NN

As you can see the only possibility that the worker does not receive the bonus is NN. It is much easier to calculate the probability of NN and then subtracting that probability from 1 in order to get the answer to the question.

The probability of NN $P(NN)=(1-9/16)*(1-9/16)$
subtract that from 1 and you have the probability that the worker will meet the bonus requirement.
