System Reliability - Probability of failure

The system consists of nelements working independently. Each element has a constant failure intensity.
What is the probability that the j-th element will fail before everyone else?

Re: System Reliability - Probability of failure

as they all are independent and have the same failure probability the probability of any one failing first is the same as any other and so

    $P[\text{jth component fails first}] = \dfrac 1 n$
