    Using seeds as my example, with the better ranked person always winning..

    1)
    8) .... 1)

    4) .... 4) .... 1)
    5)
    ........................... 1)
    2)
    7) .... 2) .... 2)

    3) .... 3)
    6)

    You can determine the number of teams or rounds in a single elimination one on one playoff by using this equation:

    Teams=2^{rounds}

    In this scenario...

    8=2^3
