    lottery statistics

    what are the odds of getting the following from 36 numbers after choosing 4 of the 36?

    4 out of 4 correct
    3 out of 4 correct
    2 out of 4 correct

    Would like to know what statistics there are and how much chance you have of getting them correct. Would also like to know the percentage of it.

    Thanks everyone! Hope this keeps someone busy for a while!

    I assume you mean probability and not odds. There is a difference you know.

    The probability of choosing 4 out of 36 would be \frac{1}{C(36,4)}=\frac{1}{58905}

    The prob. of getting 3 correct out of 4 would be \frac{C(4,3)C(32,1)}{C(36,4)}

    2 correct out of 4: \frac{C(4,2)C(32,2)}{C(36,4)}

    The ODDS of choosing 4 correct would be 1:58904 in favor of winning.

    And so forth.
