1. ## Lactose intolerance causes difficulty.... (probability math problem) STUCK!!

Ok here is my issue I am trying to complete my homework however I am stuck on a simple stupid probability question. I have attached my problem, I have figured out the top portion as it was quite simple but the second part to the question I am stuck on. The problem I screen shotted is a "practice problem" as I only have a specific number of attempts at the actual problem so in order to understand the concept I opted for the practice problem first.

SCREEN SHOT is attached....

I got part one by taking the 82% of Whites & calculated what 15% of 82% was which I got 12.3 i dont need to explain the rest you get the gist hopefully

2. ## Re: Lactose intolerance causes difficulty.... (probability math problem) STUCK!!

we have

$(.82)(.15)+(.14)(.7)+(.04)(.9) = 0.257$ of the population is intolerant as you found.

$(0.04)(.9) = 0.036$ of the population are Asians that are intolerant

$\dfrac{0.036}{0.257} = 0.14 = 14\%$ of the lactose intolerant population are Asians.

ok well for some reason i tried the same arithmetic on the the actual assignment and it's saying I got it wrong, why could this be ?

photo attached

PS. when i entered 14% in the practice problem, it said it was wrong... so i went ahead & asked it to show me the answer it was 14.1% WTH !!

it's not 0.11%

it's 11.1 %

0.036 / 0.257 = 0.1400778... which rounds to 14.01% not 14.1%. Did they ask for answer correct to 2 dec places?

well I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like your test software came from Betsy DeVos.
