This is the 68-95-99.7 rule. 68% of the data is within 1 standard deviation of the mean. 95% is within 2 standard deviations of the mean and 99.7% of the data is within 3 standard deviations of the mean.

Look up what corrsponds to -1.645 in the body of the z-table. It should be in your daughters stats book. Possibly in the front cover.
