    Question Simple Maths Percentage Problem

    Hi Guys,

That's right, maths... I'm from the UK

I have a really simple issue (well it will be for you guys), I'm not a mathematician so could really do with some help.

    I have 3 numbers:-

    Total Visits - 3,909 people
Bounce Rate of Total Visits - 56.13%
    New Visits - 68.66%

I've worked out the number of new visits at 2683.92 people but what is the bounce rate (as a % and figure please) of the New Visits?

I worked it out as 56.13% which is exactly the same as the total visits bounce rate and in doing so confused myself hence signing up here and asking you (very clever) people for help.

Please could you also include working out with your answer so I can understand?

    Many Thanks,

    Tom

    Re: Simple Maths Percentage Problem

    Hi Tom,

You don't have enough information to do more than estimate the number of new visits that bounce -- and I think you've done it correctly.

    1) First you calculate the number of new visits, which you correctly identified as 2683.9 (3909 * 68.66%).
    2) Then -- and this is where the lack of information comes into play -- you have to assume that the bounce rate of new visits and the bounce rate of total visits is the same. In fact, it may not be, but since the total visit bounce rate is all we have, then all we can do is assume that it is. Therefore, just multiply the number of new visitors in step 1 by the total bounce rate to get the number of new visitors that bounced. So:

    2683.9 * 56.13% = 1506.5

    And that's your answer.

    Cheers,
    S
