# Math Help - histograms and classes

1. ## histograms and classes

HI;
Should a histograms classes be labled with class limits or class boundaries?

If I'm given the classes say 1-10 10-20 where does the 10 lie in the first or second class?

2. ## Re: histograms and classes

Hey anthonye.

When you have histograms the different regions must be disjoint: in other words if you have 1-20 with two bins then one bin might be [1,10) and the other is [10,20] so you don't have the same element in any two bins.

With regards to notation [ means you keep the value on the end point and ( means you don't include it so [1,2) keeps 1 but not 2 and [2,4] keeps both 2 and 4 and both keep anything in between these values.

3. ## Re: histograms and classes

Ok thanks but assuming those values are class limits should I label with limits or boundaries.

4. ## Re: histograms and classes

Usually each bin or section has boundaries listed.

5. ## Re: histograms and classes

Ok thank you Chiro.

Please take a look at the graph it may explain why I'm confused.
