# Math Help - Help me please =( test statistic, p value, critical values conclusion

1. ## Help me please =( test statistic, p value, critical values conclusion

test the claim that the mean age of the prison population in one city is less than 26 years. Sample data are summarized as:
n=25
x=24.4 years
s= 9.2 years

Use a significance level of a=0.05.

Assume that a simple random sample has been selected from a normally distributes population. Find the test statistic, p value, critical value(s) and state the final conclusion.

2. ## Re: Help me please =( test statistic, p value, critical values conclusion

Assuming this is the sample mean

Let's do these one at a time.

Test statistic is $T_{calc} = \frac{\bar{x}- \mu_0}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}}$ , what do you get?

3. ## Re: Help me please =( test statistic, p value, critical values conclusion

I'm not sure?

4. ## Re: Help me please =( test statistic, p value, critical values conclusion

$\bar{x} = 24.4 , \mu_0 = 26, s = 9.2, n=25$

now find $T_{calc} = \frac{\bar{x}- \mu_0}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}}$

24.4-26= -1.6? is this right? at least for the numerator

Yep, good start!
