Need help with a tree diagram. Here is the problem:

The track meet has two groups of racers in the 100m dash. The winner of each of the races will go on to the championship race. Shown are the contestants in each of the races.

Race 1: Chris, Ted, Peter Race 3: Karl, Bill, Mike

Make a tree diagram to show the possibilities of who will make it to the final race.

I know this can't be as hard as I'm making it. But, need help please! Thanks, Kris

For starters, it would help if the question was written out properly. You said there are two groups of racers, but then you say there are three races... Would you please state what it is before we try to help you along a possibly wrong path?

I think that is the problem. It is written wrong, but that is exactly what is says. Assume that race 3 should say race 2? Thx!

That's what I expect too. I'm sure you can figure out a tree that shows all possibilities for the two races

Well this is for my son and this is something I just don't understand and he obviously doesn't either. I just need to know how to start it.
