Could somebody answer these questions for me and give me the original formula...My online course did a terrible job on this section.. they dont tell you how to solve anything.

to 14. 5 students don't have any specific signs, that leaves you with 40 student who could be tall or haired or both. The sum of 28+19 = 47. That means there are 7 students who are tall and haired. Than there are 28-7=21 who are haired but midgets and 19-7=12 who are tall (but bold).

Second problem solution:
285 students attend both dances, so first dance attended 285 + 455 students and second attended 285 + 155. So total number of students who have been to both dances is 285+(455+155) which is 895 students.
Totally 605 students did not attend both dances.
