    help!

    i need help with this question!

    In a track meet with 10 runners,how many ways can 1st,2nd and 3rd be awarded?

    it is _{10}P_3 = 10 \cdot 9 \cdot 8 = 720

    can you tell me why that is?

    yes!

    there are 10 runners and 3 outcomes so you plug it in the calculator using nPr button. the order does matter in this situation. thanks!
