Hi All,

I feel a little lost with this question I'm trying to solve:

A study was conducted to learn about social habits of male and female college students. Independent random samples of 1000 female students and 800 male students were obtained. Of those sampled, 180 female and 200 male students admitted that they party on the weekends. At $\alpha$ = 0.05, is there sufficient evidence to conclude that partying habits of male and female college students are different?

I'm pretty sure that I need to find:

$Ho; \mu_{m}\ge \mu_{j}, Ho; \mu_{m} < \mu_{j}$

Can anyone help me get started?

I think you have mixed up H1 and H0 in your post.

assuming that was just a typo, your hyopthesis can be re-written as:
$H_0 : \mu_m - \mu_f =0$
$H_1 : \mu_m - \mu_f \neq 0$

Have you been taught a testing procedure for the difference of two sample means?

I'm not yet equipped with that knowledge but I have my text book in front of me. I'll give it another shot and reply to the thread. Class lectures aren't taught with confidence and I'm overly confused with this one.
