Statistics (obviously)

Let me first introduce myself by making it very clear that I am mathematically weak.... i excel at just about any other subject you can think of including sciences that use math but when it comes to any specific math course it is a struggle just to get the answer for one simple problem, and even so it rarely makes sense to where I actually grasp the concept....
The reason I emphasize this is because anyone who tries to help is really going to have to break it down to the simplest possible form.... to often people seem to over estimate my ability to understand mathematics simply because everything else comes so easily.
so here are the problems I am having thus far in my statistics class...

Standard deviation... I can do it with a step by step guide but cannot, for the life of me, remember what to do if it's not already laid out right in front of me.
Is there some trick to remember what to do to find the standard deviation?

random number.. or sample? table (i think that's the one) how do you operate a random number table..
We have the tables in the tables in the back of the book that gives us all these random numbers but how do you go about choosing those numbers....

Confidence intervals..... anything you can tell me about this ...would be great.
this is what we are currently working on and I am just completely lost, I don't even know where to start looking for help....

What you want can be found in textbooks, class notes, or found with Google. Further, you need to get help from your teacher. MHF helps with specific questions, it does not provide the sort of tuition that your questions require.
