The question:
In a certain school, 74% of the students like basketball, 76% liked tennis, and 82% liked soccer. The all three sports are liked by at least:
a) 68%
b) 32%
c) 77%
d) 36%
The approach:
The sum of the percentages is more than 200% (232), so obviously, the figures given include the intersections of the sets. In a worst case scenario, there would be no students who liked all three, and the intersections taken two at a time should have satisfied the requirement of the sum adding up to 100. But then we'd end up with way too many variables....
