Thread: The Math Behind Card Counting

Hi,
Recently I have been studying card counting and the idea behind the "Hi-Lo" system that make card counters so successful. As of now, my current knowledge extends as far as the basics of card counting, such as the values of each card rank and how to count a deck. But what I am really looking for is the derivation of the formulas and the strategies developed by Ed Thorp which led to the special values of the cards.
